Glide bikes or kids scooters?

This question is about all over the internet and has sprung up some debate as to which is best? What is better for a young child? So we thought here at Kids scooters we would show you some pretty cool alternatives to kids scooters, or even just an extra fun outdoor activity!

You may or may not have seen the beginner bikes available from a company called “Adventure.” In short they are a bike with no pedals enabling your child to get to grips riding a bike, finding his or her balance point and not having to worry about pedalling.

Some people might say “what is the point? You might as well buy a kids scooter then when then child is ready buy them a proper bike” True. But these types of bikes will teach your child a great deal about balance and control and will enable them, once they are old enough to learn to ride a bike a lot quicker!

These bikes are also a lot more comfortable for the child to ride unlike a kids scooter, as they have a seat which enables them to sit down and glide at the same time. They are made from light aluminium frame which enable your child to feel like they have more control of the glide bike. These particular models shown above are perfect for children aged between twos and four years old.

Similar to kids scooters these bikes have a rear braking system, in the form of a V brake, which is exactly the same as what you would find on any standard mountain bike. Very easy to maintain and adjust if it required. They are also available in some great looking designs and colours so make sure you shop around.

Below we have put together a small table to help you make sure you are buying the correct size bike your child

Wheel Size Approx Age Approx Inseam
12 Inches 2 - 5 years 14 - 16"/35 - 45cm
16 Inches 4 - 8 years 18 - 22"/45 - 55cm
20 Inches 7 - 10 years 22 - 25"/55 - 63cm

A balance bike in summary will encourage your child to learn how to balance a bike on two wheels confidently, without having to worry about pedalling and simply just gliding and having fun! The company who make these bikes actually say that your child will learn faster and Will not spend as much time if any using stabilizers.
